Paul wanted to paint this goose on a very large canvas which he knew would create an imposing and powerful image. The background was secondary and when he started to work on it some strange things started to happen; it was intended to signify loose graffiti sprayed onto a concrete wall. However, as it developed it was as though some of the letters were floating in space, which was an intriguing effect which he embraced.
