Bethany Perry
Bethany Perry is a multidisciplinary artist with a keen eye for the physical form. The London-based artist engages a variety of mediums from mixed media to painting, digital illustrations, and even body impressions. Each of her creations is a testament to female empowerment and an increased societal understanding and empathy toward growing issues of mental health.
Bethany was born and raised in Wiltshire, England, where from a young age demonstrated a passion for art and performance. Determined to break away from the small town mindset, she journeyed to London. She channeled these passions into a career in makeup artistry with an emphasis on illustration. She found herself excelling in the industry, working with top designers, magazines, and celebrities including GQ, Kansai Yamamoto, Vivianne Westwood, RIMMEL London, Puma, and code8. Although her drive to create never ceased, there was a strong discord that began to physically and mentally disconnect her from her true sense of self. She pursued new paths to reclaim a balance within her own life. Her love of performance inspired her to master the art of striptease. Her time as an exotic dancer unleashed a wildness and freedom that continues to impact her career as a visual artist. Since establishing her artistic career she has gained acclaim and exhibited with institutions including The Mondrian Curtain Club, Boomer Gallery, Gallery 21, Every Women Biennial amongst others.
Her artistic practice is the result of discovering her authentic self and sharing the inspirational journey with others. Bethany creates personalised, unique embellished body impressions to uplift, inspire, and celebrate the human body. To debut the physical form for all its glory, no matter what shape, size, or gender. The process of creating her impressions, whether be the human body or other objects, becomes a meditative and reflective experience. Just as performing offered her an escape in her days as a dancer, creating her physical works of art becomes a therapeutic act. Drawing from her life experiences, her work subverts the unrealistic ideas and standards of beauty that surround us and highlights the lasting emotional impact of these unhealthy relationships with ourselves. Just as her art allows her to partake in a stress relieving self reflection, she hopes that the art she shares resonates with those who feel trapped and hindered by patterns of negative thoughts that cripple health, leaving so many feeling disconnected and alone.
